Ulcer

Post by Dogwithmanners »

Good day.
all tests (breath, stool) for HP are negative for my wife in last two years, but she still has a duodenal ulcer (it was found at the last gastroscopy). Could you tell me if there are any studies of diseases of the stomach and duodenum not related to HP at the present time? And is it possible the appearance of ulcers without HP?

Thank you

is your wife taking any NSAIDs related drug?

NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, voltaran, etc can reduce the stomach mucous and lead to stomach ulcer.

if your wife has to rely on NSAIDs, then she is required to take PPI to prevent stomach ulcer.

Thank you for the reply.
My wife does not take NSAIDs. Her illness lasts more than four years. In the first year, the HP test was positive. after treatment, all tests were negative, including biopsy. she is on a diet, does not drink alcohol and does not smoke. She takes PPI from time to time. She has focal gastritis, gastroduodenitis and duodenal ulcer. Therefore, we are interested in whether there are researches that are not related to HP, because (as far as I know) there is a certain percentage of people with ulcers of unknown origin.

Thank you

you may be right. But non-H. pylori and NSAIDs related peptic ulcer disease is very rare. Perhaps it's genetic.

It's probably because your wife's acid production is higher than normal. Hence the ulcer. Nevertheless, your wife will have to take long term PPI to prevent further damage.
