Bloating

H. Pylori is causing extreme bloating, and the discomfort is awful as I had a recent spinal injury and the tightness extends around my injury. The bloating makes me look 8 mos pregnant. What can reduce this abdominal distension? What is happening internally that causes the bloating from H. Pylori? Thanks in advance!

How's your HP status? did you manage to get rid of HP?

No, I am the “difficult case” that failed 6 treatments so H. Pylori is still not eradicated yet. I was scheduled for re-doing endoscopy for antibiotics sensitivity on the 31st of December but I had a stupid accident on 29th of December and broke two vertebrae in a fall. So it was recommended that I postpone the endoscopy. But I am dealing with terrible abdominal distention which was initially not so bad but saw on X-ray that my intestines were quite backed up from taking the iron supplements for the anemia (thanks H. Pylori). For 2 days I have been taking laxatives to help “clear the pipes” and alleviate the discomfort from distention, but even after that the abdominal bloating continues and is making the pressure on the injury worse. Why does the bloating occur? It is not so bad in the morning but as soon as I eat or drink anything I swell up quite dramatically, and I am not taking any pain meds that slow digestion. :-(

I think you should wait till you are "healthy" again before attempting another treatment to get rid of your H. pylori.

Hi, @ankiwo72. I'm sorry to hear that. Indeed antibiotic-resistant HP is a burden that I don't wish on anyone. Because you're waiting for the endoscopy, you can't take non-antibiotic drugs that could inhibit HP as proton-pump inhibitors or bismuth. A temporary solution may be a symptomatic treatment for bloating with Simethicone until you get your antibiogram. You may also consider getting a food intolerance test. For instance, these guys from intolerancelab.co.uk are performing them at home. Who knows, maybe you have some specific foods your guts are intolerant of. Take care of yourself!
