After 3 Treatments, HP still shows up on endoscopy test in c

After first line treatment, various "second line" treatments can be used. The policy for H.pylori is: Make sure the infection is real (breath test for follow-up). Always give a high dose of PPI (acid blocker) when using amoxicillin. In the second treatment, give a different drug in place of clarithromycin.

After 3 Treatments, HP still shows up on endoscopy test in c

Post by upendzi1 »

My daughter is 7 1/2 years old and was diagnosed with HP in February 2011. She was complaining of severe stomach pain and was also having difficulty walking, which began in September 2010. After many blood tests, CT Scans, MRI's, Xrays and appointments with specialists, she was diagnosed in February with HP. She finished her 3round of treatment(February 2011, April 2011, July 2011). We just received results from her second endoscopy(still positive for HP). The antiobiotics make her very sick(vomitting, diarhea). We adopted her at the age of 2 from Guatemala. She also needed to be treated for Jiardia two times before she tested negative. She continues on prilosec. Her fourth round of antibiotics have been prescribed. Our doctor does not want to prescribe the tetracyline treatment bc she is so young and bc of its side effects. She is underweight which concerns us about putting her on the regiment again. She is always complaining of stomach pain. My husband, other child, and I have all been tested for HP and results were negative.

Is there anything else we can do? Are there any specialists in the Connecticut area(we can travel to MA, NY). I appreciate any information.

she probably can try PPI+ amoxicillin + metronidazole. this is one of the common treatments for H. pylori. discuss with your doctor and see if that's suitable.

so, you have her endoscopy report? did she get a biopsy or histology or culture of bacteria?

They did a biopsy. One time in April and repeated again in August. The biopsy was positive both times. It was first diagnosed in February through a blood test and stool test. Also, a stool test was positive in August.

she can also try amoxicillin + Clarithromycin + metronidazole + rabeprazol.

ask if the pathologist kept the biopsy. see if they can grow the H. pylori and do antibiotic sensitivity test.

How about your daughter's health now? Is she better? And what treatment were applied for her at that time. I ask these questions because it seems there is something similar with my friend's son. Sometime he saids painful with his stomach also. My friend is worry and sent him to the hospital wiout any result.

There are many ways to test for HP for a 9 year old.

1. blood test.
2. breath test. (may be tricky to get a 9 year old to swallow a pill)
3. stool test.
