Does anyone else have a sore tongue!!!

Post by Joolsamc »

Hi all! I don't normally participate in forums so hope I'm entering my query in the right place!
I just wanted to ask if anyone else suffers orally with H Pylori? I have such a sore tongue and mouth in fact these were the first symptoms that initially took me to the doctors back in April. My tongue feels like its on fire, its quite swollen, rather pale and grey in colour, cracking down the middle but raw at the tip. My taste buds have completely gone and everything appears sour or metallic! The doctor initially gave me antibiotics incase it was oral thrush (although looks nothing like the images I've seen for this on Google!) but they had no effect. After a few more weeks the burning seemed to spread from my mouth down my throat, chest, stomach and lower... Basically from my mouth to backside burns!! My stomach gurgles, i have periods of nausea and constant aching pain to right abdomen and back. My ears ring, muscles often feel twitchy and chest flutters through out the day. After another trip to the doctors a blood test showed up H Pylori and I had my 1 week of triple therapy. That was now 12 weeks ago and although I felt there was perhaps an initial improvement all symptoms have basically returned. The doctor says that its unlikely that the bug has come back so quickly but perhaps the antibiotics never eradicated it in the first place? And my biggest worry of all is that this is perhaps something more sinister as I've never felt so 'completely' unwell for such a long period of time. Can anyone else identify with this especially the mouth discomfort as that is making me miserable? Thank you in advance for any replies! X

I know the feeling. My tongue is the same as yours. Stomach gurgles and makes me feel sick. I was told I was eradicated but sometimes I wonder. Neck is stiff and muscles are sore too. Just another thing after another. Keep your head up. God bless

your "tongue" symptoms are not typical to H. pylori infection. However, you can always do a breath test to check if your H. pylori has been successfully eradicated.

Hey 'jools' ~ I was wondering how you are doing, and what the latest is with your situation!?

Were you eventually diagnosed with H-Pylori, or something else?

Like yourself, my damn tongue symptoms were the first to commence (depapillation, red, sore/burning, and these weird white/yellow blisters that come and go ~ all at the front of my tongue) ~ Myself, this has been going on for exactly 4 months now! I don't know whether it is a coincidence, but my tongue symptoms started when I had been on 'Gaviscon Advance' for one month. I stopped it as I thought it could be causing the tongue problems.

Just like yourself, 3.5 months after the tongue symptoms started, so past half a month I have developed the most crazy 'Tinnitus' in one ear. (This is what has eventually prompted me to message you).

Strangely a few times past few months I have coughed up 'Tonsil Stones', which is a new thing for me, alongside disgusting bad breath which my partner has commented on, not that he needs to, I can taste the foulness myself! Not worrying, but interesting as it is a few of many NEW symptoms I possess.

Unfortunately I seem to have developed some more full on strong symptoms, including Cardiac, like yourself (you mention flutters), and have become generally very unwell, and weak. Most of the time I feel like I am dying, and have completely lost my old life! (These terrible symptoms (too many to mention), started after I finished taking 'Lansoprazole', 30mg, which I took for 3 weeks. I stopped as my mouth felt like a Hamster cage! Now I am left with this terrible burning in my throat, too, which was not there before, (my acid reflux before taking PPI 'WAS' silent).

I have had a fully array of blood tests, some repeated, all are normal. (Although I did point out to my GP that my Folic Acid (B9) is only 'JUST' within range. And my B12 is in range, again, not that high though, and I understand that some levels of B12 in the blood can actually be inactive! So a normal range could be hiding an actual deficiency!

1 week ago I had a stool sample sent off for 'H-Pylori' infection ~ A strange thing to hope for, but I HOPE I get a positive result, because this seems to be the last thing.

Lastly, I was wondering what your sleep is like? I have developed the most maddening frequent night wakings which have been going on now since 20th September, so, feeling VERY drowsy during the day, taking me anything between 2-5 hours to get out of bed, dragging myself out. Normally I am out within 10 Minutes and I leap. And only sleeping 30 Minutes to 2 Hours at a time. So, all in all, MAJOR changes!

Looking forward to hearing from you, with how things are with you!

Take care :)

not a bad thing to hope for. Your symptoms do sounds like H. pylori and I do hope that you are positive for H. pylori. At least we only know how to treat it, we are very good at treating it..

Hey Helio_expert, we are chatting on my thread elsewhere:

The stool sample I mention above proved to be a false negative!

Thank goodness I BEGGED my GP for a referral to a Gastroenterologist!

One Endoscopy later, and finally, a positive result! :)

Hello all!

I have been on quite the journey to end up here and at this moment I am still waiting for the not so reliable blood test results to come back to see if we go for endoscopy. Regarding the tongue issue which is something I've discovered along my journey to gut health. The tongue is connected all the way down to our backsides so to speak as a pp mentioned. I am no expert and no doctor but I did begin finding relief for my tongue. My to guess was one of my first really obvious symptoms. It lost the papilla and hot these cracks on the sides and a few on top along with taking on a gretish hue underneath. Its sore. I began treating myself for a "leaky gut" which is bound to happen with little bugs pushing into our cells. I did alot of research to find what suited me best but..I'll put the general info out there. I began eating as whole as I could. I obviously cut out likely/ known new allergens for me that was gluten and dairy as well as sugar..it had to go too. On too of that I found that L Glutamine in powdered form at a higher than labeled doses for specific time frame daily..for me I worked up to 30 mg daily divided up 3 times a day then titrated down again to standard dose. In addition to this I found that leaky gut is essential scurvy of the gut. And our typical vitamin c made from ascorbic acid is not enough. That contains just the outer wall of the c vitamin. Inside its divided into 4 other pieces one of them being the specific deficiency linked to leaky gut. It's called QUERCITIN so in addition to changing my diet and adding the L-GLUTAMINE ( which is food for epithelial cells found in gut lungs heart..) I added QUERCITIN I took 700 u a day plus a multi vitamin(I struggled with replacing vitamin deficiencies b.c of the appropriate way to take them and I know multi isnt the greatest way to go.) Anywho..within a week my skin complexion began to change and the lines on the tongue dissipate. The once sore tongue felt thinner and no longer sore. I know those 2 supplements plus eating healthy helped b c I stopped them for 4 days and began eating regular once again and lo and behold the cracks and sore tongue are back. I have been to every specialist for this issue which began with flaky skin and SEVERE stomach pain. I've been to hav an endoscopic ultrasound which found pancreatic swelling and issues with gallbladder valves. I am trying to make this as short as is possible but I have had many symptoms, I'm only 30 and to be honest am healthy but have not treated my body right over the past 5 or 6 years. My hair is falling out by the bucketful and everyone is telling me I'm stressed. I have been not googling but researching how the body works to find solutions for myself which my dr. Then tests as he pleases which in my experience has been great and irritating all at once. Let me tell ya though..I am less stressed than I've been in past(still destressing however, I'll try anything!) I cant make up a numb left arm it hurts so bad and wont shake out quickly..I cant make up the lulana on my nails vanishing and I cant make up the vitamin d deficiency or pancreatic issues. To me it seems like I'm malnourished for w.e reason and after a year an a half I finally requested this one last test..the one which I'd written off a year and a half ago. Maybe one day the red veins in my eyes will get better. The only time my hair came back(whole body hair loss) was after I was sedated for an endoscopy to check pancreatic health. For that following month a weight was lifted..the little lulana on my nails came back and my hair back to normal. Gotta run sorry this is poorly written just wanted to say that I believe all of you and I am here with you to help share about what I learned and if this test is eventually proven negative be it with my blood pcp or a breath test with gastro..then good luck on you're journey..take a serious look at leaky gut..I dont know why it seems made up to ppl at all. (Also want to add I too had blaring tinnitus and had been eating clean for weeks when I added the 2 supplements which seemed to cure the tongue issue immediately) I also mention my symptoms subsiding after anesthesia b c there is quite the link between remission of autoimmune conditions and being out under)

Hey there, I just got diagnosed with H pylori and have also suffered for over 20 years.

To answer your question, yes I’ve had a sore tongue and solved it by taking a 5,000 microgram vitamin b12 lozenge everyday.

I remember googling “sore tongue” and it said that a b12 deficiency could cause it so I went to the vitamin shop and used the lozenge and miraculously the soreness disappeared right away.

Hope this helps

Yes I have had these symptoms.

I believe it is OVER PRODUCTION of ACID coming back up into the mouth.

Try some tums. If you feel your mouth pain changes, it may be neutralizing that acid.
For me I get the TONGUE pain when it's really bad. But I also get pain in my teeth and enamal is sore. Mostly when I have a flare up.

I believe it is related to sugars in food. I switched to soup broth only, and most symptoms have gone away. Can the bacteria be starved out? I don't know.

Even besides ADDED sugar, there are so many different types of sugars in food. Breads, crackers, and fruit all contribute to my symptoms. I have also been heavy steaming things before I eat veggies. easier for stomach to break down and less acid req. to digest.

Just my thoughts. I am no expert.
