What is the optimal first line treatment? Drugs/diet

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

What is the optimal first line treatment? Drugs/diet

Post by berttt1 »

My doctor is old school. Hes probably just going to throw the same drugs at me hes been prescribing for 30 years. Im wondering what is the optimum treatment in terms of drugs/diets.

Basically what PPI and at what dosage is best? (Choices)

Probiotics - yes or no - and if so when during the day? Any actual brand recommendations.

Diet (a biggie) Ive been eating chicken, baked potatos, eggs, avocado - essentially anything that agrees with me and I can eat without losing MORE weight. What is the suggested diet when going on antibiotics? Will I need to go down to bananas and rice etc? I cant lose any more weight.

Thanks for your help.

depending where you are. As H. pylori can resist to many antibiotics, your doctor should know what is the best treatment at your local region.

PPI - we normally prescribe 20mg, three times a day.

probiotics - optional. if you think it works, go ahead. Unfortunately you'll have to try the brand out yourself. Not everyone finds probiotic work.

Thanks for your response.

In the NYC area. US

Which ppi do you typically use?

And as far as diet goes on antibiotics - is it down to the brat diet?

There is no guideline to what is the best diet to control H. pylori or for the recovery.
So just eat healthily. Balance is the key. Dont over do anything good.

We like to prescribe rabeprazole here.
