On a 14-day antibiotics course, here's how I'm doing

Edit: if you want to follow my journey, please use this page: https://wecured.com/report/2 (Also highly recommend that you use the site to track your symptoms and treatments. It's really helpful when you need to discuss them online or with your doctor.)

Consider joining this data-driven H Pylori community where people post what worked for them: https://wecured.com/condition/h-pylori- ... ter-pylori

I'm 29, Male. For the last 20 years, I've had these symptoms:

Shortness of breath (when exercising)
Sinuities
Bad breath
Chronic white tongue (tested not thrush)
Chronic dry lips
Chronic dry facial skin
Phelm in throat
Chronic cough
Chronic dry mouth
Chronic dry eyes

Becuase these are not your typical H Pylori symptoms, I don't know if H Pylori is the cause for them. Regardless, I want to keep track of them. I will update this once every 2 days or so.

Here's how I'm doing on day 3:

Shortness of breath (when exercising) - Almost disappeared! Today I walked up a hill that would always make me out of breath. I walked up today breathing without opening even my mouth!
Sinuities - No significant improvement yet
Bad breath - Disappared!
Chronic white tongue (tested not thrush) - Still not completely pink yet but seems to be better.
Chronic dry lips - No difference
Chronic dry facial skin - Much better. When I was on Doxycycline, it was not dry but it came back as soon as I stopped.
Phelm in throat - No difference
Chronic cough - Slightly better. No longer cough a lot when exercising.
Chronic dry mouth - Slightly better.
Chronic dry eyes - Disappeared. When I wake up in the morning, I don't have white stuff around my eyes. This was true when I was on Doxycycline as well but came back after I stopped.

I'm improving. I just hope my symptoms don't come back after antibiotics.

On a somewhat related note, when I was younger, both my parents suffered from stomach pain and issues. They might also be H Pylori positive.

Yup. it's very important to stay positive. Distract yourself with hobbies or work is a good strategy.

You are doing great!

Day 4:
Shortness of breath (when exercising) - Still gone. I've been able to walk up the hill without breathing through my mouth! Before, I wanted to faint after walking up the same hill.
Sinuities - No significant improvement yet
Bad breath - Still gone but I'm starting to feel a little smell coming from my mouth. Hopefully it doesn't come back after antibiotics.
Chronic white tongue (tested not thrush) - Not much better.
Chronic dry lips - Not better.
Chronic dry eyes - It seems like I do have some white stuff around my eyes after waking up.

No bad antibiotics side effects so far. I did wake up yesterday with some pain my lower back but it seems fine now. I also had some metallic taste in my mouth.

Day 5:

Everything is unchanged from day 4. I went for a walk today and I want to climb up every hill. Before this treatment, I'd want to faint after walking up a hill due to shortness of breath.

So I looked into why.

It turns out that H Pylori can cause iron deficiency: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3710418/

84 people had H Pylori and iron deficiency. 32 patients recovered from iron deficiency within 6 months after eradicating H Pylori.

Iron deficiency causes the following symptoms:

Shortness of breath Yes
Feel your heart pounding No
Crave ice, clay, dirt, or paper No
Restless leg syndrome Yes
Hair loss/thin hair Yes, thin hair.
Chronic cough Yes
Feeling tired/depressed Yes
Sore tongue/coating Yes
Frequent bloody noses Yes

I have most of the symptoms. Perhaps taking a multivitamin that contains iron would help me recover faster?

You are doing great!

You are right about the association of H. pylori and iron deficiency. Many patients have their blood iron back to normal after HP eradication.

Maybe your "tiredness" is due to low iron level. Hopefully the eradication of HP will get you back to normal.

You may take the multivitamin if you think it helps.

Day 6:

I noticed that my energy level is much higher. I no longer have a brain fog. In the past, after going out for a walk, I'd want to take a nap. Today, I went out for a walk. Came home. Did some work. Then went back out for another walk.

I also started taking oral probiotics to see if it helps with my coated tongue.

I've been taking an iron complex for the last 3 days. Not much difference. I'm asking my doctor to test my iron deficiency and other vitamin deficiencies.

Day 9:
Shortness of breath (when exercising) - Still drastically better. I can walk up every hill without being out of breath. I go for walks/biking all the time now.
Sinuities - No improvement
Bad breath - Still gone but I'm starting to feel a little smell coming from my mouth. Hopefully it doesn't come back after antibiotics.
Chronic white tongue (tested not thrush) - Not better.
Chronic dry lips - Not better.
Chronic dry facial skin - Much better. When I was on Doxycycline, it was not dry but it came back as soon as I stopped.
Phelm in throat - No difference
Chronic cough - Better. I notice that I don't cough out of no where anymore. This might be related to my shortness of breath getting better. I would always cough up a storm after exercising and sometimes slight coughs during resting.
Chronic dry mouth - No difference.
Chronic dry eyes -No difference.
