Help with a possible Amoxicillin resistant H Pylori

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

Help with a possible Amoxicillin resistant H Pylori

Post by frostyfeet »

I moved from China to the U.S. when I was 8. I'm 29 Male.

Ever since I was a 9 or 10, I've had these symptoms:

Shortness of breath (when exercising)
Bad breath
Chronic white tongue (tested not thrush)
Chronic dry lips
Chronic dry facial skin
Phelm in throat
Chronic cough
Chronic dry mouth
Chronic dry eyes

After reading this site, I'm a bit afraid that I might be resistant to Amoxicillin. When I was 19, I was prescribed Amoxicillin for my cough but I didn't finish the bottle.

At around the same time, I rinsed my mouth with baking soda and every symptom I described above went away literally over night.

A week later, I came down with a cold. I stupidly took one of the Amoxicillin pills I had left from before. Over night, all of my symptoms came rushing back.

I recently did an endoscopy and found that I have H. Pylori. My doctor prescribed a 14 day course of Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and Omeprazole 20MG.

I'm on my first day of the course and my chronic dry facial skin is starting to get better. I'm still dealing with all of the above symptoms.

But now I'm afraid that I might be resistant to Amoxicillin due to my unfinished dose of it and the one time on-pill intake 10 years ago.

Should I be afraid?

The good news is, after 20 years of routine antibiotic resistant screening on H. pylori, we have never seen an amoxicillin resistant H. pylori. So we believe H. pylori cannot become resistant to amoxicillin.

There is nothing you need to worry about. Good luck to your treatment.

Thanks for the quick answer. I feel a bit better now.

So far, these symptoms have shown immediate improvement:

Bad breath
Chronic dry facial skin

Did anyone else experience the same?

Also, has anyone had a white tongue turn pink after eliminating H Pylori?

Thanks in advanced.

The white tongue could be candida. If it gets worse, you can ask your doctor for anti-fungal drug.

They tested some sample from my tongue and found that it's not thrush. Could it still be candida?
