Pylori gone (?) but gnawing pain remains

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Pylori gone (?) but gnawing pain remains

Post by IhatePylori »

Hello,

Recently cured Pylori after 10 days of antibiotic, 30 days ago. I did 30 days of probiotic following treatment, then waited 2 weeks taking nothing and even avoiding probiotic-rich foods. Breath test came back negative (<0.5, threshold was 2.5).

Now I still have gnawing pain in the stomach that doesn't go away, I don't know what to do. I'm taking zinc carnosine, L glutamine, and vitamins (D + multivitamin). I eat extremely healthy and don't drink alcohol 99% of the time.

Also for context I believe I had pylori for at least 5-6 years and never got diagnosed. Symptoms I had and are completely gone:

- feeling pregnant after eating, constantly
- insane amount of farts, and smelly
- permanent kinda liquid-ish feces that took forever to wipe (sorry for the gross stuff).

Post treatment feces are pristine (only" ghosts" almost), almost no farting, and no bloating.

But this freaking gnawing pain still comes and go and makes me insanely paranoid, funny stuff is I never had this pain before treatment...

Is it normal and should I wait a bit more?

Thanks a lot!

first of all, congratulation in getting of H. pylori. It looks like you had gone through the treatment without much difficulty. So that's good.

Most important thing is to confirm that H. pylori is out of your system. A reading of <0.5% is very promising.

It is normal that some symptoms can persist for a while. It could be weeks, months or years.
The symptoms are usually due to the damage done by the H. pylori. So it takes time to heal. The younger you are, the faster the healing and recovery. Some damage can be permanent. like a scar.
But if H. pylori is no longer in the system, then at least the condition will stop deteriorate. If you are fit and healthy, then your chance of recovery is high.
Eat healthily and fitness training can help.

Thanks!

Should I request another endoscopy to confirm Pylori is gone?

I really feel better most of the time, I'm athletic and eat good, so that's the first step.

Appreciate it

If your purpose is just to confirm HP eradication, there is no need for another endoscopy.
a breath test or stool test should be good enough.
