Weaning off ppi

I am in process of weaning off ppi so that I can go for retest. I have noticed that I have hunger like pain, which is relieved after eating, but comes back after an hour. Pls comment.

I think your stomach is recovering and it's happily pumping acid, making you think that you are hungry.

If PPI helps, you can take ranitidine to relief the hunger pain.

Ranitidine is a fast acting acid neutralizer and doesnt stay in your body for long time. It will not affect breath test. You can continue ranitidine until the night before the breath test.

I stopped taking ppi after carefully weaning off. I was feeling fine, but 2 weeks after stoppiing, the hunger pain reappeared out of nowhere. May i start taking ppi again? Pls help

Perhaps you want to get a breath test to confirm the eradication of H pylori before starting PPI again.

Nevertheless, sometimes symptoms can flare up. The frequency of the flare up will gradually decrease when there is no H pylori.
