bad breath is usually because of bacteria growing in the oral cavity.
H. pylori has the ability to catalyze Urea to produce CO2 and NH3.
The NH3 is normally used to neutralize the acid for it's survival. I believe it is the excessive NH3 that get breath out that caused the bad breath.

We have seen patients with over 5000 dpm and remain asymptomatic. we have also seen patients with 200 that has ulcers. So the breath test reading, although correlate with the amount of H. pylori in the stomach, has very little clinical significance. All you need to know is if it is positive or negative.
