After effects of H Pylori (even after successful treatment)

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

After effects of H Pylori (even after successful treatment)

Post by paranoid_helico »

Hi.

I was diagnosed with H Pylori back in 2009. I cleared it after my 3rd round of antibiotics treatment. Since then I have been very paranoid about H Pylori reinfection because of the cancer risk. I go back to take a Urea breadth test almost every year since and it has been negative. I've also had two endoscopy done which shows gastric, last one being in 2010.

I would like to ask similar people who have successfully eradicated H Pylori, do you still suffer from gastric pains and a turbulent stomach? Because my stomach is very weak after H Pylori, and i have pains out of no where. Even omeprazole sometimes doesn't help. I'm also not too sure if its gastric to begin with. I'm very sick and tired of stomach pains. :(

It would be great if you guys can share.

Thanks!

Hi, sorry to hear of your pain. I'm into my 7th day of PBRC treatment and I thought my tummy pains would subside but they havent. From what I've read and researched. You need to look after your stomach. My surgeon absolutely recommended a high fibre diet. So lots of raw fruit and vegetables and cooked veg ok too. Salads ok. Go easy on the meats.. limit the amount of red meat and chicken. Meat is hard to digest. Although we're all different. But in my experience I cannot digest red meat at all so I dont eat it. chicken and fish ok. (Grilled)

You may be lactose intolerant??? So check that out. Perhaps do an elimination diet and introduce dairy back into to your diet to see how you stomach reacts. Or you could be gluten intolerant also. Once again do an elimination diet. Or cut back and slowly bring it back into your diet. I know for me fatty foods sends my tummy in turmoil. IF I have fish and chips or pizza I'm in pain for days after.

I found doing the Joe Cross juicing programme and eating a high fibre diet absolutely helped. I also eat a raw natural yogurt with probiotics. I also take inner health plus. And if I dont eat bread i feel much better.

Give it a try anyway... Stay away from heavy foods. And stay clear of processed, high fatty foods. see how you go with that.... And drink lots of water. Buy yourself a stainless steel water bottle and carry it with you. Add a teaspoon of metamucil to the water and drink during the day.

Your tummy needs to heal. So if your eating heavy foods you stomach has to digest it. And if your recovering from HP and have gastric problems and inflammation then you need to go easy. (my suggestion anyway)

I'm not trying to preach but I found doing some of the above has helped me ammensely with tummy problems. Although I do have pain at the moment but my whole body is out of whack with the meds i'm taking and not eating properly.

Safe travels...

Hi Dublingirl, well i dont think im lactose intolerant. Have tested it out. its just after contracting h pylori, my tummy havent been the same. In fact, its been very weak. So that really sucks. Just wanted to see if its only for me, or for other h pylori sufferers out there.

Thanks for your reply, and good luck for your treatment!

although H. pylori is the common cause of stomach discomfort, perhaps your case is not because of H. pylori? Maybe you should go back to your specialist and check for other reason. Then again, non-helicobacter related stomach problem is a very poorly studied area. Perhaps your specialist will tell you something new.

Hello,

I had tested positive for H.Pilori last spring. Took the triple therapy through the summer. Did the breath test and came back negative in the fall. It is 6 months later and I still have symptoms. Mostly when eating wheat (which i have had to cut out). I'm curious. I now feel slightly cloudy, or light headed. Anyone else have this symptom?

Thanks.

It's good to know you are now one problem less to worry about. Your symptoms may not be due to H. pylori. Nevertheless, do you know if you are sensitive to gluten?

i feel your pain!

I contracted h-pylori from food in Thailand exactly a year ago today and although the main major issues and stomach discomfort went away (that itself took close to 4 months!!) i still have issues now

The main issue is dairy especially cheese which i have done a process of elimination which a few other people have also recommended, wheat was also a big issue as my stomach just could not handle it and especially bread!

I have found that fruit Bananas and apples along with lighter salad type meals with fish or small amounts of chicken and red meat go down ok.

12 months on i still suffer with anxiety like my stomach can kick off at any time especially when driving long distances for work and always trying to keep an eye out for the closest toilet (just incase)

i tend to be 100% when im doing activities (football/soccer) that take my mind off things but im currently booking in to see a psychologist about controlling my mind on the issue :/

Hope your recovery is not too far from completion! :)
