Diagnosed with H Pylori infection

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Diagnosed with H Pylori infection

Post by yousaf2k »

Hi,
Few months back my stomach got upset. I feel hungry i eat well then after few hours i feel hungry again.
Last month i got vomiting 1 day and nausea feelings and pain in the stomach. I went to a near by clinic the doctor gave me PPI and AntaAcid medication, after taking medication for 5 days i feel good and pain is relieved. After a week the pain came back. I had chest tightness problem in the past and my doctor treated this with montelukast sodium, clarithromycin and anti alergy medication. I have chest tightness sometime because of mucus. I take montelukast sodium for this. Now after the pain came back. I went to hospital and consulted with the stomach specialist. He gave PPI for 2 weeks but i still feel pain after two weeks. I went again to doctor and he did gastroscopy and biopsy test. After 1 week biopsy report came and i was diagnosed with chronic inflamation and H Pylori like organism seen. I had no ulcer. The doctor gave me clarithromycin 500mg, Metronidazole 400mg and Lansoprazole 30mg in morning and at night for 10 days. I am taking these medicines now. If h. pylori is eradicated how can i prevent from further infections. I am taking medication and i hope h. pylori will eradicate. If you have any suggestion please guide me.

Thank You.

you probably need to check people who you have close contact. for example, under the same roof, sharing food and drink. it's not easy to catch h. pylori from other source. always drink boiled water to avoid water contamination.

after treatment, a lot of people found better and did not re confirm the eradication, then after a while, the discomfort came back. most people will think that they were re-infected. in fact, the reason is because they failed the eradication treatment. and most of the time, is due to antibiotic resistant.

My antibiotic treatment is completed. Now i am taking ppi twice daily. I still feel itching pain, burning like pain in my stamoch. But it is much better then before treatment. How much time will it take for the pain to go away. Is the antibiotic thearpy enough. I think breath test is not available here. Only blood and stool antigen test available or biopsy.

you have no ulcer in your endoscopy report. so that's good news. so, after treatment, the recovery varies between people. usually within a week or two. but there people who suffer longer recovery. The recovery depends on how severely damage is the stomach.

so, i suggest you to keep taking ppi until your pain goes away. perhaps some good bacteria may help at this stage. get a stool test after you stop your ppi for at least 2 weeks to confirm the eradication.

I took heliprobe breath test. After taking capsul, then after 10 minutes nurse gave me a plastic paper like thing and asked me to breath in it. I tried to blow in it but not all the air goes in it because of hole's are tight only a narrow passage. I cant make it like ballon. It was my first time experience. I saw ballon like test on internet, so i was confused and tried to blow in the hole. There was an indicator which changes from yellow to orange color gradually as time passed. When it was nearly at end the nurse told me to open try to open the hole more and blow. I opend the hole more by pressing my fingers and thumb, now hole was like a round shape and when i blowed it was like a ballon. I blowed two three times then nurse took it. The result was 0 after putting the test in a machine. 0 means h pylori negative. I am confused that may b it was due to the less breath passing in the filter. I am still feeling burning in my stomach.

zero is pretty low for a h. pylori infected person, even if you did it incorrectly. or, you can do an endoscopy session. They'll have a look at your stomach and be able to tell if it is infected.

It is not easy to catch it again if you had it eradicated. Most of the "re-infection" is because of the treatment failure. meaning the first antibiotic treatment did not eradicate the bugs and because follow up breath test to check the eradication is not practised by many doctors, people were usually told they were reinfected.

Nevertheless, you should ask whoever you are very close to, to check for H. pylori infection. "Close" means sharing food, sharing water, lots of physical contacts, etc. The point is, H. pylori doesnt survive very well in the environment other than stomach. So, it is very difficult for them to be transmitted around.
