Do you regret undertaking antibiotics therapy? How was your treatment?

The most popular treatments consist of two antibiotics (one of which is usually clarithromycin) plus a strong acid blocker such as omeprazole (PriLosec, Nexium, Somac, Zoton, etc.). Treatment is for 7-10 days. Cure rate is about 85%

Do you regret undertaking antibiotics therapy? How was your treatment?

Post by Aragorn »

Hi all !
I've been putting the quadruple therapy aside for a long time. I feel that I must do it but I'm scared of the horror stories I've read online, some even say that it's worse that chemotherapy ... So my questions are:

1. Do most people feel that the therapy was doable and not a huge deal, or do they feel that it was a torture?

2. Do most people feel that doing it was a right thing or a mistake?

3. How soon after completion of the therapy do side effects of the antibiotics go away?

Hey

I didn’t take it for months too reading the horror stories

What a load of crock.

I felt like shit the first day, I couldn’t even type on my phone but I knew it was because of antibiotics being introduced to the body - but it wasn’t anything you’d cant handle, - just make sure it’s on a weekend and you can rest - The second and third day have been fine so far

But here’s my tips

No white bread

Try to eat prebiotic food - watermelon banana cabbage and I’ve also not had any milk, or overly sugary foods aside from that I’ve had things here and there

I take a high quality probiotic the kind that’s refrigerated and has multiple strains

I’m not sure if I’m lucky ( I’m usually not I was extremely ill before I started )

But it honestly isn’t as bad as people online make it out to be, I think the comments are people who thought antibiotics is a instant cure medication and suppose to make you feel better on the spot like aspirin etc. it won’t do that - you all feel sluggish and like crap, you might even diarrhoea or feel constipated but as long as you’re in the right headspace and know this is a feel worse until you feel better situation you’ll be alright, If you go in like the people online and expect the aspirin effect, or your illness lifted then your you will definitely have the “I fee more sick” mindframe. You’ll get all kinds tingles, body aches and feel weird and spacey ( maybe some die off symptoms ) but you will not get violently sick unless you have a allergic reaction or something.

Thank you!! That helped.

Any more opinions are welcome so that I can make up mind.

Hey I replied above on day 3

I’ll say it again, i think most people approach it is a magic pill that is suppose to make them feel ‘better’ ( all comments online are omg I feel worse omg I don’t feel better ) so if you think you’re suppose to feel better after ingesting a powerful cocktail of drugs that are actively killing bacteria inside you and expect to go about your day as perfectly normal - you will definitely think the side effects are crazy because yes you do go from feeling relatively normal to feeling significantly different feelings of tiredness, heavy joints, sort of like a vaccination tbh. The approach I take is that I’m expecting a bunch of aches and pains so I wait it out and by morning it’s completely gone and then rinse and repeat 😛

I am on day 4* and it’s only getting better and better ( I took the morning treatment and as was expected I feel like crap for about 15-20 minutes back to normal ) you have a lingering meh feeling and at night time I feel body aches but nothing relaxing and sleeping doesn’t take away - and then in the mornings I feel freaking great. I’m so happy I feel I got lucky.

for me the antibiotics significantly dulled/ took away away crazy severe neurological symptoms I was complaining about for a couple months is just a dull ache now ... and I’m hoping it isn’t a placebo effect do temporary block or something *sigh

I haven’t had any diarrhoea, the only thing is I had a weird rash with a lump under the skin just above my buttocks but it isn’t painful or anything so I’m just going to let it subside it could have nothing to do with the antibiotics because I’ve been having a bunch of weird shit happen in the last 2 months.

You definitely will feel different - I just feel body aches, chills, spacey as soon as I take it - it becomes better and then in evening and at nights when I take second one I feel terrible-ish the kind you can’t go outside of house, body ache, Brain fog again but I think it’s to be expected to feel a little more of the side effects at night I don’t over think it - I just lounge around, and then sleep through it and I wake up feeling 10/10 lol I’m just rinsing and repeating till it ends

I am very lucky to be on home rest for the 7 days so I don’t know how it will effect someone in a high stress/work/social setting though I know I couldn’t do that. Rest and hydration and tucked in bed is making it a breeze for me

I have been taking it with no sugar water boiled oats, I’ve cut out calcium, I drastically reduced my sugar, I don’t eat junk food but home food nothing spicy or overly spicy, small meals. I also take a probiotic randomly when I think enough time has lapsed, I think maybe this helps me in having no belly symptoms except a little ache here and there and I can see how it will be different for everyone so expect aches and lethargy and just ride it out :)

I feel very fortunate tbh, and expected way worse 😂

Thank you. So I started the treatment. Day 1 passed ok.
But I'm reading conflicting information about dairy. Is dairy ok during the treatment? Particularly: hard cheese, sour cream, butter, yogurt?

I'm currently not taking coffee, black tea (green instead), spicy foods, junk food and alcohol.

Please clarify about dairy, someone.
Thanks!

yup. it may be true that calcium in the dairy may mask the antibiotics effect.
Nevertheless, the antibiotics are absorbed into our blood stream and attack H. pylori from behind the enemy line. So I think the risk is low. We never ask our patients to avoid dairy. Just avoid Alcohol.

Thank you! And fatty foods ok, like butter?

Also, can the antibiotics be taken between the meals?

We find no significant difference with or without meal. So go ahead and plan your antibiotics. Best is to spread them as evenly as possible. for example. if twice a day, take it every 12 hrs
